Stay updated with the latest in the Fakewhale ecosystem

Hello,

Welcome to issue #25 of the Fakewhale Newsletter!

This week, we are excited to unveil Fakewhale Studio's inaugural book, "GENERATIVE ITEMS," launching today with a private viewing at Valuart Gallery in Lugano, Switzerland.

FW STUDIO | GENERATIVE ITEMS

Fakewhale STUDIO launched last June with the mission to explore new creative languages, aiming to expand artistic research through artificial intelligence and new media.

We're proud to present our first book, "GENERATIVE ITEMS", a publication that showcases collaborations with 15 incredible artists who each contributed 5–6 photographs from their personal body of work, which were then processed by an algorithm designed to generate outputs inspired by their original visual styles.

The book, published in collaboration with PRNTD, will be unveiled in Lugano (CH) at Valuart’s gallery during a private event today.

ERRR by qubibi Installation View, Fakewhale Solo Series, October 2024

Last week, Fakewhale presented "ERRR," the latest addition to the Fakewhale Solo Series by qubibi. This collection explores the beauty of imperfection, embracing the 'errors' that emerge during digital experimentation.

The series featured three pieces: a one-of-one auction, a limited edition, and a 48-hour open edition. The launch was a success, with the one-of-one and limited editions sold out within the first 24 hours, and the open edition reaching 24 mints by the end of the minting window.

FW INTERVIEWS

Markus Sworcik and René Stiegler

In conversation with Fakewhale, Markus Sworcik and René Stiegler explore how memory, technology, and everyday moments shape the unexpected layers of their thought-provoking installations.

“We deliberately avoid clear categories and try to use the said contradictions, paradoxes and errors as essential building blocks for expression. We try to grasp the complex aspects of existence—not as clear answers, but as open questions that continually arise in new constellations. We in no way see these opposites as something that needs to be reconciled. Likewise, we often intentionally combine things that don’t fit together in a harmonious way. The goal is not harmony or beauty, but rather the triggering of a feeling.”

Julie Insun Youn

In dialogue with Fakewhale, Julie Insun Youn talks about her evolution from traditional painting to creating multidisciplinary digital art that explores 'selflessness' and the power of art to invoke instant meditative states.

“The presence of the artwork itself serves as an entrance to an ideal state of “trance.” In the exhibition space, we are subtly guided by the artwork into a realm beyond our immediate perception. This invitation leads us from our ego-centered routines and the weight of complex thoughts to a world of pathos. The moment we accept this invitation, we experience “egolessness and trance,” where everyday life and language cease, without any meditational practice or effort. I have always been amazed by the spiritual power of art and aspired to live as a mediator of that power.”
