“The barriers are breaking, and I’m happy with where we are. Five years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined us being here. What happened at MoMA was incredible: almost 3 million people saw the exhibition live, bringing in a completely different audience. But we need more initiatives from institutions, private groups, and others to continue pushing forward.

We also need better infrastructure — more galleries, more participants, and more physicality. I know it sounds contradictory, but we need digital art to have a physical presence too.”

When approaching the dialogue between the digital and physical world in my work, I often begin with digital elements – an algorithm, a short video clip or a digital geometry. This forms the core idea, which must then be aesthetically defined so the audience can distinguish between what is ‘work’ and ‘non-work.’ In this process, I carefully consider how the audience will interact with the piece and the kind of experience I want to create for them. I need to determine if, and which, physical manifestations of the work should be experienced – or whether the work should be experienced at all.
